Tarot Card Comparisons: The Thoth 9 of Disks & The Babylonain Tarot-9 of Disks-Gain

Astrologically this card represents Venus in Virgo which brings great efficiency but with lackadaisical feelings. A card of physical gain that is not really sought.

To a Qabalist, this card represents Yesod (Foundation) in Assiah (Material World) and promotes the meaning of "good luck" and management. The Divination meaning of this card means inheritance or material gain.

 

Here we have success and a certainty gained from knowing you've made the right choices and done the right thing. Self discipline in the material world. As Crowley stated," everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds."

The Thoth Deck Nine of Disks (Pentacles in Golden Dawn and Ryder-Waite decks) is also called, Lord of Material Gain, or Gain for short.

The Planet is Venus and Virgo is the sign.

Angels of the Decan are: Hazayel and Aldiah.

The 9 of Disks card represents Yesod in Assiah and/or the influence of Yesod in the Material World. Yesod, means foundation, for Yesod is the 9th Sephira representing the Astral plane where dreams begin materializing. The Energy intelligence of Yesod is the liquid-light plane of image, before crystallization/  solidification in the active material world.

Therefore, this influence is very favorable for amassing things, but with Venus in Virgo, there is a lack of overt feelings accompanying this great efficiency; a lackadaisical attitude toward wealth.

This efficient amassing of material things, is shown by the design complexity of Crowley's Nine of Disks. As he states in his book of Thoth;"The Disks are arranged as an equilateral triangle of three, apex upwards, close together; and surrounded at some distance by a ring, six larger disks in the form of a hexagram. This signifies the multiplication of the original established Word by the mingling of 'good luck and management'."

The Thoth Nine of Disks-Gain:

This card represents gain on all levels that are physical and that influence the physical; emotional gain, spiritual gain, mental gain and physical gain. This is hitting the mark; a bulls-eye card, that shows you are financially right on the mark because your heart mind and soul are in union. In other words, you are passionately focused and have enabled gain on all levels of performance.

Astrologically, since this is Venus in Virgo it is implied that Venus is beauty, love, and creative power while Virgo represents balance, order and organization. Together, the meaning is your heart and mind are in this loving creative moment.  The results are gain on all levels .

The Babylonian Tarot-9 of Disks-Gain, concentrates on the images of agriculture, which was the true wealth of Mesopotamia.

The creation epic Enuma Elish, was far from being the only creation story of this area, as different cities often had their own creative story.

For instance, there was the Theogony of Dunnu, which feature the Plough and Earth as two primeval forces that initiated material creation. Plough, the masculine part of the Divine Creative, married Earth (the feminine part of the Divine Creative) and their very fecund honey moon produced the Sea, Furrow, and the Cattle God.

The Cattle God, then took a shine to the Sea, and the resulting honey-moon sired the Flock God. Upon viewing the darling deity-River, Flock God got all "fuzzy" feeling and married River. The resulting union created the Herdsman God, Pasture and Popular. But the begetting didn't stop here, for Pasture became popular with Popular ; the resulting marriage producing the Deities Haharnum and Belet-seri. Just as seeds, the new generations of deities were constantly born, uniting and producing the next generation.

Suggesting the agricultural growing and harvest seasons of plants, it was a common practice in Mesopotamia, to have the younger generation of gods, eliminate the older generation, with one exception. In the New Year, the younger generation of gods permitted the older generation of gods to live with it; for a time.

The Babylonian 9 of Disks, therefore, shows the Plough and the furrowed Earth. Representing the prelude to planting grain, a gain for future generations. The nine disks seem to represent the planted seed.  The star rosette is shown on five of the disks, while the remaining four show the star-disk of Venus. Beneath the plough, is shown the cuneiform symbol for the #9.
