The Tarot of EliThe Hermetic Qabalah Thoth Tarot-TWO OF WANDS: DOMINION, as compared to the Barbara Walker Tarot- 2 of Wands: ALLIANCE:

The symbol of the the two Dorjes (Tibetan symbols of the Thunder bolt) crossed on the Thoth Tarot card, show balanced "male" and "female" forces.  This balance is shown on the Barbara Walker Tarot card as rods of power in both Male/Sun and Female/Moon reflective.

The electric force that is a masculine active flow of energy towards achievement of goals, forming into a female-magnetic domain of form. In this balanced state, where the  expressed will of personality (artificial person) and the Soul (The Real Person) are in union, there is no lust for result;  but joy in creation. Hence, the 2 of Wands card shows committed active power; a "do or die" kind of flow that will not be denied. This Spiritual Sovereignty is where the body is balanced and recognized as "another" spirit form, thereby becoming tireless in the flow of electric force.

The  2 of Wands and the 2nd Sephiroth- Chokmah/wisdom:
From the Golden Dawn Texts:

The four Deuces symbolize the Powers of the King and Queen; first uniting and initiating the Force, but before the Prince and Princess are thoroughly brought into action. Therefore do they generally imply the initiation and fecundation of a thing.

To reiterate:
The key to all systems, as well as, the Universal Pattern, is the Only Reality, which to Qabalists is know as Chokmah (Wisdom) the 2nd Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. Kether is "not" or no-thing, therefore it is not reality. When we cause reality, it is of our beliefs, perspectives and opinions united, so I often call Chokmah the Real...for it is not of us, but is the will before us and is not of our opinion nor individual perspectives.  Our beginning as a Psyche is in Chokmah/Binah union, the idea of I (Will to force) and Am (Will to Form), all begin there. Thus we are Dreaming ourselves into willful existence.   For now, we know Chokmah to be Will To Force and the Feminine Aspect is Binah-Will to Form. Albeit, they seem separate, they are really a ternary collective who is One, called the Supernal Triangle.

THE Thoth TWO OF WANDS-DOMINION is also called the Lord of Dominion and whose zodiacal attribution is Mars in Aries. The Angels of the Decan are Vehooel and Deneyal.

The Two of Wands represents Chokmah influencing the World of Pure Spirit known as Atziluth.
Again we are trying to explain the inexpiable which is the Supernal Triangle. This second Sephiroth is the Pure will of "I AM, without need of result. Which to many is impossible to realize for most of us exercise "will" to reach goals. We don't realize that Will is the Power behind Spirit, Kether, the First Sephiroth of "I Will BE"  who begins the Spiraling of Energy into motions that build microwave dimensions of I AM ME. But before frequencies are stimulated into existence, and then into life, there was Will to Force ( Chokmah-the Divine masculine) and  Will to Form (Binah-The Divine Feminine), inseparable and indivisible.

The Sephiroth are called Beings  that may be expressive Force or may be receptive Form, but in fact, a Being to a Qabalist is a "immortal state of Conscious Energy", a Trinity that forms a Triangle and/or Plane.  While we may all know that the living forms we are used to, have a beginning and an end; a Being is "collective of eternal I Am", and therefore it is shown as a "numbered circle"; a Sephiroth and has not depth and its dimension is infinite Pi. Hence,  Chokmah is Being; The First Being (for Kether is "no-Thing"),"The All Father" Electric who has no form until She the Magnetic- the third Sephira-Binah "wills him to Form". If you remember that all the number cards of Tarot are representing the Objective rather than the Subjective, you then will know that now, in the Twos an object of power is formed. Therefore, "All Father" would be the First Form of Energy,i.e. The Core Sun of our Galaxy, which we call the Galactic Solar Core.   Therefore, represented in the Two of Wands is that creation of the Two states of  Will That is "He" and "She", Will to Force and Will to Form. On the Thoth Card both Wands are being masculine and feminine in this state as both are "expressing will"(spear point) and "forming Will" (Kha-dro-ma heads) into Identity. Where the Dorjes cross, is a "Being", a point in timelessness, as form hasn't been given limits yet. When form is shaped into "limited space" we call that a "point in time", and/or an "entity".
This inseparable union of the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine are shown on the Barbara Walker Tarot Card as the "solar he" reflecting in the Moon-Pool (abyss) of the Eternal She, which establishes the eternal energy alliance of "Will to Force" and "Will to Form"; something we call the electromagnetic spectrum.

So to condense: The 2 of Wands represents, energy in an unbridled state of Force, for the Wands are Mars  exalted in Aries, as the fiery Mars rules the fiery sign Aries. Here Fire, i.e. Spirit, is pure Primal, and brilliant, warm and bright as both Will to Force and Will to Form. The Dorjes, Tibetan symbols for Thunderbolts, are shown crossed on this card, emphasizing the power and harmony of this card and the Central union of Will to Force and Will to Form of our Galaxy that are in balance here. Hence, the subtle, yet, forceful Dominion of Spirit has become a domain, i.e expression in objective form .

Again, the  Zodiacal and Astrological signs on the Two of Wands are of Marsand Aries. Both aggressive and therefore aggressive dual force is applied here. There is no lust of result in this Pure Will, made of the harmony of "He" and "She" aspects of the One. The Union in itself is a joy-filled journey. Therefore  there is no "battle of the sexes" where one wishes to rule the relationship over the other.  There is the Union of Wisdom (Chokmah-I) and Understanding (Binah-Am), that gives birth to Knowledge and all creation. Here, Energy is initiating a current of Force, that Spiral of Energy from which all domain is created. Here, is the Center of the Milky Way Galaxy, our Solar Birth Womb.

When the word Harmony is mentioned, one often thinks of peace and quiet bliss, but this is the Violent Destructive Harmonious Force that initiated in the "Big Bang" gathering about itself a collective of "identities", totally without resistance in and of itself, but destructive none the less, for it is "as fire", both consumptive and trans-formative. A Rhythmic intercourse of growth and identity change in the Substance of Mind, which we call Spirit and or Psyche.
One could say that a Singularity (I) exploded  "outward" to form the building blocks of our Universe (I AM) and disturbed the peace and balance of absolute stability, so that "change can become a constant" (Me); the One Energy can now Transform according to SELF. For all Self is a duality of "force and form".  Here Mars in Aries represents that Powerful Gathering of Force to deconstruction of- "I" for the purpose reconstruction as- " I Am". A gathering of Will to Force and Will to Form and or the beginning of Trans-formative Energy. Now the first law of Thermodynamics is in motion [....there is only one energy that cannot be created nor destroyed, only transformed...and transmitted].  One is now in motion, which requires I  transforming to AM, a dual identity of I and Another way to Be and/or AM.

The heads adorning this Dorjes, are of the Kha-dro (ma) [Tibetan Angels who are the highest form of female] and combined with the "arrow head" shape of male force, show that this is a polarizing force, where "Will to Force" is balanced by the magnetic- receptive "Will to Form"  of female. A definite form is enlivened by this union and pure will makes this new idea of Self a manifestation.

Therefore, the Two of Wands is a card representing combined Spiral flows of energy, representing a very powerful form of "twin flames" ; as in all power, it can be ill defined. Electric male energy given emotional (energy-in-motion) form such as fortune, health, and magnificence can also be given forms of illness, poverty and mortification. All of which the "Will to Force" and the "Will to Form" will enliven. So it is best to understand the "law of Attraction" and know that what you put willful emotion to---will be your life motion. To focus you energy (Emotion is Energy-in-Motion) on lack, misery, hate, and distrust will only get you more lack, misery, hate and distrust and in its extreme will result in violence towards others! If this card is thrown with the cards of sorrow, defeat, debauch etc... it is time to change your perspectives!

Great will takes great focus to change the forms of energy in motion, so deep focused meditations on"What you are grateful for" when done diligently, will succeed in changing the charge of powerful attraction towards forming a more positive creation.  This is Sex-force in its purest form. It is the intercourse of Spirit Will to Force and Will to Form within the personal plane of body
self-conscious achievement.  The Dual-Will that is Spirit is the Force here and the body is the Form of Will that the Force of Will, is taking here. Polarity, is achieved by the flowing union of force and form so once again I state that highly charged emotional thoughts must be focused on what you want and not on what you don't want, making  this  a positive re- birthing experience. This is also a card of self confidence and affirming a positive approval of yourself. All of which is necessary to accomplish your goals.

To reiterate:
Looking at the Tree of Life, we know the twos to be Chokma/Wisdom --the Second Sephiroth of the Supernal Triangle.

In the Hermetic Qabalah, the Two's represent the "first manifestation" and or Object. On the Qabalistic Tree of Life  (shown below) we know Kether to be the 1st Sephira, and many have thought that this is the first manifestation of conscious energy. Yet Kether is the "limitless light", a "no-thing" and has no end or beginning, which allows no viewing. Therefore Kether is known as the "Dark Sun" as it can't be seen, and is the least understood concept of the Tree of Life sigil.
Therefore the First manifestation falls to the Twos, which represent Chokma (Wisdom) and Binah (Understanding) Who is the First Light Sun and/or the Galactic Core Sun of the Milky way.
Hence,The Four Alchemical Elements may be ideas in Kether, but only upon reaching the Deuces are they in appearance.
The Twos represent the Elements uncontaminated by influence, therefore, they appear in their original harmonious condition.

For instance, the Thoth Two of Wands is called Dominion and/or Lord of Dominion, because the word Lord implies Husbandry"as guardian of grain", in its original Anglo-Saxon feudal meaning. This is the Fire Element in its purest form and is the "movement within all motion". This is pure will; will in its most exalted form. Crowley called this card "...will unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every-way perfect". [Al. I.44].

The Creative Will is also represent by the Six (number of Tiphareth-The Sun/Son) and therefore the 6 flames of the Sun in its exaltation in the sign of Aries are shown on the Thoth card.
This is Pure Will, independent of any given object. Will without lust of result that is Will, the dual I AM, without the "to be" that causes manifestation of "me". This is the Powerful Will that the Magi can  channel into ritual manifestation, but only if the Magi has taken care of preparation so there is  no lust for result in their psyche.

Since, Mars, the planet of War, is in its own sign Aries, the first of signs, and therefore represents Energy initiating a current of Force.

Again: Lady Freda Harris and Aleister Crowley decided upon  an interesting illustration of the Tibetan Dorjes  (Thunderbolts) crossed, but crowned with the Angelic Tibetan Kha-dro-ma (Daughters of Kali), signifying that these thunderbolts are more destructive than constructive. Few of us remember that destruction is the first part of the creative process, but it is so. In fact, it was theorized and then later proven that lightning had to strike our very oceans, just to begin the process of amino acid formations, from which all life began on earth. This is known as the:
Miller–Urey experiment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia  .

The Miller–Urey experiment (or Miller experiment) was a chemical experiment that simulated the conditions thought at the time to be present on the early Earth, and tested the chemical origin of life under those conditions. The experiment confirmed Alexander Oparin's and J. B. S. Haldane's hypothesis that putative conditions on the primitive Earth favored chemical reactions that synthesized more complex organic compounds from simpler inorganic precursors. Considered to be the classic experiment investigating abiogenesis, it was conducted in 1952 by Stanley Miller, with assistance from Harold Urey, at the University of Chicago and later the University of California, San Diego and published the following year. After Miller's death in 2007, scientists examining sealed vials preserved from the original experiments were able to show that there were actually well over 20 different amino acids produced in Miller's original experiments. That is considerably more than what Miller originally reported, and more than the 20 that naturally occur in life. More-recent evidence suggests that Earth's original atmosphere might have had a different composition from the gas used in the Miller experiment. But prebiotic experiments continue to produce racemic mixtures of simple to complex compounds under varying conditions.

Even the Universe as The Singularity, destroyed itself to become many, in the Big Bang. To tell the Truth, any great accumulation of energy by any form, be it psyche or physical, will destroy its lower frequency and if done properly, a phoenix will arise from the excess of flame as a higher frequency.  Energy, is oppressed in forms; a necessary oppression to be sure, but sill in each of us, the energy fights to join with the Totality. Invoking more of the One Energy, changes the form's Time/Space, to more energetic boundaries than before. Hence, the one who invokes is often accused of "insanity" because their reality (boundaries) has changed from the normal- form- boundaries of animal life. That expansive  perspective makes both genius and insanity seem to be one and the same as the mundane form is bound by a lesser perspective of self and fears the greater.
Hence, here is represented on the 2 of Wands, Energy balanced to initiate a current of Force. Since initiation of Force is often at first destructive to the object it is focused on, this card is at first destructive to comfort zones and is often viewed, because of the assault, with fear and repulsion. This later changes when the greater plan is understood  and the individual mind willingly co-operates with the Greater Person.

Often, in those who seek "enlightenment" (Thunderbolts of energy---"The flow is in the Know") find that their attempts at expanding bring fear and repulsion, sometimes in themselves and others,  which are the primary animal responses blamed on the "ego" as it sees its own  smaller energy construct being stressed; i.e. self- destruction of its fear based identity as being eminent. But then with understanding of the complete plan, as Qabalistic study is wont to do, the student  willingly surrenders, rejoices and co-operates in the "Purifying Fire" of which Saints are often accused of entering.

The Tarot- 2 Of Wands: Dominion or Alliance, represents the state of dominion, balance, and integration. We are now well into the Minor Arcana, which consists of 40 cards which show the various ways the Major Arcana (22-keys of the Trump) are experienced in day-to-day living.  The Major Arcana, Trump or Atu, are states of Universal Collective Consciousness, and the Minor Arcana or small cards, are how the Universal expresses itself as an Real Person and/or Soul, as well as, a self-conscious personality.

The Two of Wands shows two Dorjes (Tibetan symbols of Lightning/power) or Power rods. The symbol of crossed Dorjes or dual power rods, represents, optimum balance of energy, the sense of sovereignty and being comfortable with your domain which can be called Personal Unified sacred power.

By looking closely at the Thoth Tarot card, the horse heads on the Kha-dro-ma-crowns symbolize spiritual power and the serpents at the base of the arrow heads, represent the regenerative power  and healing that comes from this power balance.

The Thoth Tarot, 2 of Wands and the Barbara Walker Tarot, represents your coming into your own power from your deep spiritual center that is a balance of Male electric (the rods) and female magnetic (The Khadroma-Tibetan angels- heads on the Dorjes or the female reflection in the Moon Pool).
Tibetan Kha-dro-Ma which are considered Angels or Demons, depending if you are frightened of the Initiating Force or joyously accepting the necessary destructive/constructive nature of this Current of Force.  Studying the Tibetan concept of the Kha-dro-Ma gives even greater insight into this Cards Force; However, the Tibetans are very secretive about the Kha-dro- Ma and will only state adamantly that they are the "highest state of Feminine" in the Universe and compose about 10,000 Myriads in number.

The Barbara Walker Tarot-2 of Wands: Alliance,
presents a more traditional meaning of the Wands card, indicating a partnership or communion of 2 powers having different capacities, such as male-female, moon-sun, thought-action, conscious and unconscious, etc.

The mythological symbols of this Divine Androgyne abound,
as Artemis-Apollo, Isis-Osiris, Yami-Yama, Hermes-Aphrodite, Freya-Frey, Diana-Dianus, Mashya-Mashyoi, and even our western biblical Adam and Eve, who where one being before God tore them apart. This Divine Creative of a dual nature, is still worshiped as the creative principle of the universe in some parts of the world. For instance, the Dahomean ( since 1991- The Republic of Benin ) deity Mana-Bluku, the Moon-Sun.

On her card, Barbara Walker, illustrates the androgynous combination of solar and lunar powers, each one reflecting the other (as does Chokmah and Binah of the Qabalah), with their wands meeting at the interface of their respective realms. Basically, she states that alliance between consciousness (sun) and the Unconsciousness (Moon) is necessary if anything is to be accomplished and each partner must be reconciled to the different qualities of the other.

When the Two of Wands-Dominion or Alliance Tarot card, are thrown during a reading:

  • The querent is experiencing the will to move forward in a new direction. From a place of undaunted will, of full power, and balanced dominion.
  • Contemplating new ideas without lust of result.
  • What once was unfocused energy, is now becoming clear and polarized.
  • Affirming a new self identity.
  • A partnership of two powers, opposite yet reflecting each other.
  • The Self confidence that only comes from affirming and approving of one's self.
  • A senses of accomplishment without any feeling of satisfaction.
  • Considered to be influence over another, Dominion, boldness, courage, fierceness, shamelessness, revenge, resolution, generous, proud, sensitive, ambitious.
  • Restless, ruthless, turbulent, and many other descriptions of a Willful  Current of Force being applied to a situation.
  • This card tends to be sagacious yet can be unforgiving and obstinate according to dignity.
  • The Two of Wands is Focused Will and Fiery Motion, in a balance that will destroy the issue focused on to rebuild a new form.
  • Very powerful card of Motion and change by a destructive means, which is often seen in the world of Atoms and molecules forged by the massive forces of the Stars. When this card shows up in a reading the Will of Spirit is involved.
  • In the next two weeks, or two months, you will have the energy, like Mars, to move in new directions: like Aries, from a place of integration, balance, harmony and spiritual power.
  • You have attained a certain amount of integral balance, harmony and dominion within, that enables you to expand and liberate your life from past imbalances.
  • Illumination.
  • The querent is being overcome by boldness. courage, fierceness, and Shamelessness.
  • Generous and proud, but also a certain amount of revenge, and resolution.
  • There is a suggestion of turbulent energy, that seems to be beyond the "ego's" ability to control but it can also become sagacious, yet unforgiving and obstinate.
  • It is because it Is.....and the persona becomes baffled by the power unleashed without a "lust for result".
  • Centering only on the love within, is the solution to this immense Power of Will, that is all around us, but of what we have so little contact with as we have "given ourselves" to the ambition of "others".....and believe we have little, if any "Will Power".
  • This card is suggesting that the Spirit (Will) is beginning to rebel against its predisposed  boundaries...come "Hell or High Water"!
