The Tarot of EliThe Princesses of the Thoth Tarot, are the Pages, in many other decks, including the Tarot of the Old Path. The Thoth Tarot is of the Hermetic Qabalah and goes by the occult paradigm of Tetragrammaton. In such a paradigm, the Daughter unites with the King. The Daughter of a King is a Princess not a page.
In the Traditional Tarot, pages are androgynous and most often portray a youthful person.

The Witches Tarot, portrays the Page of Wands, as a young traveling news carrier, shouting out his/her message.  The Page is dressed in the colors of Fire, and wears a sun flower pendant, both represent the fire element of this card.

In the enthusiastic youth's right hand, is a walking stick of a blooming hawthorn rod, that represents the wand of other tarot cards.

Leo the lion, a representative of the sun, is shown as a somewhat smaller variety of orange and white tabby cat.
The ivy, that is growing beside the path, represents  good luck and is said to ward off negativity.

The primary meaning of the Page of Rods, seems to be of a youth of good intention who transmits secret or confidential information to others. Crowley states that there is the new doctrine of Tetragrammaton where Heh' --the final earthly component, the Daughter, is set upon the Throne of the Mother, to awaken the Eld of the All-Father and therefore, replaces the pages with a Princess.

  • Envoy or messenger
  • Trusted Stranger
  • Friend who is a communicant.
  • A loyal individual.

The Thoth Tarot- Princess of Wands :
THE PRINCESS OF WANDS: represents the Earthly part of Fire. She  represents the expression of the irresistible action of a combustible substance and rules from the "heavens" from one quadrant around the North Pole (She=Magnetic Force).

It is interesting to note, that the Female Force gives Form to the Fiery-electric male force, which in its primeval stage, as the Ace of Wands, is un-willed, unformed and un-directed.  But like the Magnetic Field of Earth, giving form to the Solar rays, not unlike the Aurora in the night sky, She justifies the direction of this male Force. With flames of justice leaping from her forehead, and flying"sky clad" as a sign that she is perfectly free to combine with her partner, the All Father.

She also bears a wand crowned with the Disk of the Sun and leaping into Yod shape surging flame. In the Qabalistic Text, the Sepher Yetzirah, the Hebrew letter- Yod, is given the title of Sexual Love: However, this is not the sexual love of coition but rather the sexuality is "self contained" and "self-sustaining". That is why the Hermit-Key 9- is assigned the letter Yod as its path.

The Lords of Fire reside in the realm of Yetzirah, towards which she is leaping, thus she can be compared to the Virgin Priestess of the Lords of Fire. Further championing this fact, is the illustration of the flame topped Altar of Spring, in the left lower corner of this card.

The "seed of fire", The Ace of Wands" is now given a personal Willful expression in the Princess of Wands, as she is brilliant and daring. She has bridled passion, and fearless as shown by grasping the Tiger by the Tail, and has given it direction----where She goes--Passion goes.

Like Fire, it is her essential vigorous energy, that describes her beauty;beauty seen, as the force of her personality dazzles her beholder. Such force can also be expressed as love and anger, which is passionately charged into sudden forms of violence and implacability. Much like a Coral snake, stand back and enjoy its beauty, but don't try to posses it, as its anger is terminal.

Thus we have pegged the Princess of Wands as an archetypal personality/intelligence, that harnesses the Ace of Wands to Earth
(mated to the Solar phallus) and is volatile in nature. She consumes all within Her Sphere. She is ambitious, aspiring and full of enthusiasm and is often accused of being irrational. Being the Earthly Part of Fire, She is likened to the Polynesian Volcano Goddess, due to her Volcanic Personality. She is the Earthly fiery womb, rather than the Earthly Watery Womb.

If the Princess of Wands is ill dignified or thrown together with the Ace of Wands, we have:

  •  A person omnivorous in passion of whatever kind, entirely reckless in the means of obtaining gratification, and insatiable.
  •  It is notable, that She has given Will to the primeval  violence of Male Force ..."by naming Him Father." using His fiery flow  to impregnate her every action, as does Earth, the Sun.

The name Yod Heh Vau He, often called the Hebrew name for God, is attributed to the Court Cards, where Yod, is attributed to Knights, Heh-to Queens, Vau =is attributed to Princes and the last Heh-is attributed to Princesses, the earthly manifestation, as the ultimate issue of the original energy in its completion, i.e. crystallization. However, they also represent the counter-balancing and re-absorption of the energy.  Therefore, the Princesses are also the Silence into which all things return.

The Princesses have no zodiacal attribution. Hence, they are likened to "elemental" people who are recognized by their lack of all sensual responsibility and whose moral qualities are very flexible. Therefore, they are sub-divided according to planetary predominance.

Of such persona Eli Levi wrote: "The love of the Magus for such creatures is insensate, and may destroy him."  Which it will, as lovers of the Scarlett Woman (Babalon-Crowley's spelling) have found out. She will consume you, as fire does a wyrm, only for you to rise again as a phoenix out of the ashes of universal and consumptive passion of "I will be". Therefore, a form of Dragon is made manifest. Be very cautious young magi, She is spontaneous and unforgiving!  But if there is any of the Eternal Fire still pure in you, and your Will is unshakable in unrequited- Passion's extreme heat, she'll make you blaze as a Star! If your sanity doesn't return expanded, then your will was flawed.  Needless to say, this elemental persona is not for the timid.

If the Princess of Wands or Page of Rods is thrown during a divination:
  • A major fear is being faced and overcome.
  • This person has a new idea that is being  concentrated on.
  • Taking risks by presenting a part of one's self that was previously hidden.
  • Opening new directions for growth and self-development
  • A quick, daring personality with enthusiastic drive and optimism.
  • A young woman with gold or red hair and blue eyes, known to the querent or is the querent, who is sudden in anger or love.
  •  Beauty, brilliance, enthusiasm and courage are manifesting in one at this moment.
